About Time Gone Bi

This blog is dedicated to review significant new academic research focused on the bisexual+ spectrum, with a special focus on bisexual/bi+ men. Sometimes known as “plurisexuality” (attraction to two or more genders), people on the bi+ spectrum make up the largest section of the LGBT population. However, historically very little scholarly study had been devoted to bisexuals as a unique population, let alone other labels on the bi+ spectrum. Bisexual men in particular have had comparatively little research focused on their issues as distinct from gay men, and important scientific work even cast serious doubt on the existence of bisexual men in the early 2000’s. It’s only been in the last decade that research on bisexuality has started to become more robust, and only in 2020 did some leading researchers agree there was robust evidence of bisexual attraction in men.

In short, I aim to highlight research on the largest segment of the LGBT community, those who identify as a “non-monosexual” label, mostly bisexuals, but which will also research on those who identify pansexuals, omnisexuals, polysexuals, etc. Scientific research is far behind the reality of the bi+ world in terms of identity, so most research is still focused on “bisexuals,” “bisexuality,” or “bisexual women” and “bisexual men.” With the controversies regarding even the existence of bisexuality as distinct from gay men, and historically higher levels of negativity focused on bisexual men compared to other LGB groups, the blog will specifically try to highlight research on bi+ men.
